What is PrEP?
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a very effective medication for preventing HIV when taken as prescribed.
PrEP can be pills or injections.
Is PrEP Safe?
PrEP is safe for women to take, and can even be taken while pregnant or breastfeeding.
There are also no known interactions between PrEP and hormone-based birth control, so it is safe to use both at the same time.
How do I pay for PrEP?
Most insurance plans and state Medicaid programs cover PrEP.
That means you can't be charged for your PrEP medication, clinic visits, or lab tests you need to keep your prescription. There are also programs that can help you get PrEP for free.
